Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has apologized to Harbhajan Singh and the Sikh community after his ‘racial joke’ on Team India’s Harbhajan Singh.
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh was in no mood to tolerate former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal’s racist remarks on current Team India star Arshdeep Singh. As India faced Pakistan in a tense T20 World Cup 2024 encounter in New York, Akmal made a racist ‘Sikh’ joke on Arshdeep, the video of which went viral on social media. As soon as the video caught Harbhajan’s attention, the spinner took to social media to criticize the former Pakistan wicketkeeper batsman and also gave him a history lesson. Akmal later issued an apology.
In the video reposted by Harbhajan, Akmal was part of a panel on ARY News. During the show, he made a controversial comment about Arshdeep’s religion and said, “Anything can happen… it’s 12 o’clock.”
His comment did not go down well with Harbhajan and he criticized Kamran for his comment on Arshdeep and wrote on Twitter, “Damn you Kamran Akhmal.. You should know the history of Sikhs before opening your dirty mouth. We Sikhs saved you.” Is.” Mothers and sisters, when the invaders abducted them, the time was definitely 12 o’clock. You should be ashamed… show some gratitude.”
Damn you Kamran Akhmal.. You should know the history of Sikhs before opening your dirty mouth. We Sikhs saved your mothers and sisters when they were kidnapped by the invaders, the time was always 12 o’clock. Shame on you… show some gratitude @KamiAkmal23 https://t.co/5gim7hOb6f
Akmal apologized to Harbhajan and the Sikh community and said that he deeply regretted his remarks. “I deeply regret my recent comments and I sincerely apologize to @Harbhajan_Singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and insulting. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs around the world and I never intended to offend anyone. Didn’t mean to. I’m really sorry.”
Talking about the match, Pakistan won the toss and invited India to bat. However, there was nothing special for the Indian batsmen on this difficult surface as star openers Virat Kohli (4) and Rohit Sharma (13) failed to score big. Rishabh Pant (42 runs in 31 balls, with the help of six fours) seemed to be playing on a different pitch.
He made useful partnerships with Axar Patel (20 from 18 balls, with the help of two fours and a six) and Suryakumar Yadav (seven from eight balls, with the help of a four). However, under the pressure of scoring runs on such a difficult pitch, the lower middle order collapsed and India could only score 119 runs in 19 overs.
Haris Rauf (3/21) and Naseem Shah (3/21) were Pakistan’s top bowlers. Mohammad Amir got two wickets while Shaheen Shah Afridi got one wicket.
In the run-chase, Pakistan adopted a more composed approach and Mohammad Rizwan (31 from 44 balls, with a four and a six) kept one end steady. However, Bumrah (3/14) and Hardik Pandya (2/24) also took important wickets of captain Babar Azam (13), Fakhar Zaman (13), Shadab Khan (4), Iftikhar Ahmed (5), which led to runs are. Pressure continues on Pakistan. With 18 runs needed from the final over, Naseem Shah (10*) looked to steer Pakistan to victory, however, Arshdeep Singh (1/31) ensured Pakistan fell behind by six runs.
Bumrah received the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning spell.
