The PCB statement comes after Pakistan’s early exit from the recently-concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after a group stage exit, which also included defeats against the USA and India.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to drop Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz from the selection panel with immediate effect after the T20 World Cup campaign. Razzaq served on both the men’s and women’s selection committees, while Riaz was a selector for the men’s team.
The PCB released a statement confirming the decision, saying, “We have announced that the services of Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz will no longer be required in the National Selection Committee system.”

Wahab had served as the chief selector before being reappointed as one of the seven members of the men’s selection panel in March this year. The former pacer has also attended a T20 World Cup with Pakistan as the senior team manager.
Pakistan further confirmed the restructuring of the selection panel and will “provide further updates on the system in due course”.
Over the past four years, the PCB has had six excellent selectors – Wahab, Mohammad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid and Misbah-ul-Haq, all of whom had short tenures.
