Rohit Sharma is the only Indian player to win the T20 World Cup twice in his illustrious career.
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma returned home with the T20 World Cup trophy on Thursday, July 4, joining his teammates at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After paying tribute in front of a packed house, Rohit Sharma headed towards the President’s Box. He had an emotional meeting with his mother and family inside the stadium.
Notably, on his way to meet his parents after a long day at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Rohit Sharma had to pass through a crowd of fans to take selfies with them. He also appealed to people to give him and his family some privacy as they hugged each other.
I can’t say I am happy: Rohit Sharma’s mother
Talking to the Indian Express, Rohit Sharma’s mother Purnima said that she never thought that her son would win the T20 World Cup this time. She said, “I did not think that I would have to see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he came to meet us and said that he wanted to leave T20 after this. I said try to win. Today I am not well, I consulted a doctor, but I will see this day as I wanted.
“I can’t express my happiness. Check out the hype. I have never experienced such an atmosphere. He gets a lot of love because of his hard work and dedication. I am a very happy mother today.”
Rohit Sharma’s mother also said that her son taking the lap of honour was an emotional moment in many ways. “What more could I have said! This day will never come again in life. As soon as he took the lap of honour, playing on such a day was an emotional moment for him,” said Poornima.
