Virat Kohli is arguably the most iconic player in the history of IPL who is yet to win an IPL trophy.
For the 17th consecutive season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign without a trophy. The feat of 6 consecutive wins seemed to have created a hunger never seen before in the Bengaluru franchise, but Rajasthan Royals ended their winning streak with a stunning win in the Eliminator on Wednesday.
Seeing Kohli end another season without a trophy, former England captain Kevin Pietersen urged the charismatic batsman to leave RCB and join his hometown club Delhi Capitals in the title hunt.
Kohli has the Orange Cap this season, having scored 741 runs in 15 matches before Rajasthan Royals ended his and his team’s journey in the T20 league. Although Kohli’s bat has scored a lot of runs this season, he has not received much support from the other batsmen, while the performance of the bowling unit has also been mediocre.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – great players of the game in other sports have left teams to go elsewhere and seek glory. When they’ve tried very hard and played hard – again The Orange Cap won and did so much again and the franchise failed again.
I understand the brand of the team and the commercial value he brings to the team… but Virat Kohli deserves a trophy, he deserves to play in a team that can help him get that trophy,” IPL Pietersen said on Star Sports after RCB’s exit from .
Speaking about the franchise Kohli should join, Pietersen favored the name Delhi Capitals, especially because the RCB star is a Delhi boy.
“I really think it should be Delhi. Delhi is where Virat needs to go. Virat can go away, and stay at home most of the time, I know he has a house in Delhi. He has a young family. He can go and spend more time there. He is a Delhi boy, why can’t he go back?
He said, “I think now is the time for Virat to think long term. Beckham left, Ronaldo left, Messi left, Harry Kane left Spurs and went to Bayern Munich.”
